Cheddar Bay Garlic Biscuits
Tender drop biscuits loaded with sharp cheddar, garlic, and Old Bay, baked golden and brushed with a warm garlic parsley butter.

Ingredients
Biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup freshly shredded sharp cheddar
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
Garlic Butter Topping
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ teaspoon Old Bay
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
- Small pinch of salt
Instructions
- 1
Heat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
- 2
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and Old Bay.
- 3
Cut or rub in the cold butter until you have pea-sized pieces. Stir in the cheddar.
- 4
Fold in the buttermilk and minced garlic just until no dry flour remains. The dough should be thick and sticky; don't overmix.
- 5
Scoop into 8 mounds on the baking sheet. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
- 6
Mix the topping ingredients and brush over the warm biscuits.
Tips
Keep the butter and buttermilk cold until the moment they go in — cold butter is what makes the biscuits tender and flaky.
Shred the cheddar yourself. Pre-shredded cheese is coated to prevent clumping and won't melt as nicely.
Stop mixing as soon as the flour disappears. A lumpy, sticky dough bakes up lighter than a smooth one.
Brush on the garlic butter while the biscuits are still warm so it soaks in.
